Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Camila Pedraza, and I am a one woman operation/owner of Bellamila since Sept 2013. I’ve always had a love of jewelry and anything shiny. When I took my first jewelry making class in Sep, 2013, I was hooked right from the get go. I was also lucky enough to have a friend that had been making jewelry for many years who mentored me and showed me the things the books don’t. It didn’t take long before Bellamila was born. My nationality is Cuban and I knew I had to choose a name that spoke to that. I chose BellaMila, Bella means pretty in Spanish and Mila is short for my name. I think it is perfect because when I was younger my mother used to call me Bella Mila.
By day I am a full-time Corporate travel agent and I spend most of my evenings making jewelry.
I’ve been working with brides designing their bridal party jewelry since Nov 2014. I want you to wear your Bellamila jewelry with confidence and pride.
How do you find inspiration for your pieces?
My inspiration can come from looking at an outfit and color patterns. I love color and I live a very colorful life which shows on every piece I make.
Do you have a favorite piece of jewelry?
I love my braided necklaces; they are my bread and butter per say. I can make them in so many colors and they are very versatile.
How long does a custom piece take to produce?
It depends what it is. The braided necklaces can take from 2-4 hours if I have all pieces in hand, but if i don't it could be up to 3-4 weeks since I have to order special charms, pearl colors, and other pieces to go along with a bride's theme.
Are all your pieces one of a kind designs?
Some are, when it comes to bridal it tends to stay classically simplistic to go along with the bride and her beautiful gown. I have made one of a kind pieces, but only a few since most prefer the single strand pearls compared to something more bold. This year I am seeing a change actually, brides are wanting something more bold.
Can you incorporate my own gemstones or other materials?
I had an inquiry about incorporating special foreign pearls to a bride's design to have something that speaks to her; usually that isn't a problem. I am very flexible and will definitely try to incorporate a special heirloom or gemstone into any of my pieces to make them a unique new piece for the bride.
What materials do you work with?
I mostly work with pearls, especially for bridal. I offer swarovski pieces as well and about 95% of my pieces are nickel free to avoid allergic reactions on the bride's special day.
How does the cost of a custom piece compare to ready made jewelry?
It depends how much the materials are and other custom factors that come into play. I am proud that I can try and work within every budget. My bride-to-be clients will always be asked if they have a budget in mind and I can make sure they are aware of all prices before the pieces are ordered and made.
"I'd like to give a huge shout out to Bellamila for realizing my idea... I had of creating front back earrings as a gift for my bridesmaids. I definitely wanted to support local and had heard of Bellamila from a bridal show. She was super responsive and sent me pictures, along with suggestions, along the way of creating them. She was able to find exactly what I was looking for along with perfect colour matches. They fit perfectly as front back earrings should, were comfortable, and my girls loved them! I'll definitely be recommending you." - Amber
